Bath
City Of Unique Heritage
is a holiday destination unparalleled in England.
Attracting visitors since the Ancient Britons first came to the sacred Springs to worship Sulis, the baths have been rebuilt by every civilisation since; people have been taking the waters for more than 2000 years.
Now designated a World Heritage Site it is home to some of the finest architectural buildings in Europe. It has been a favourite town of Kings and Queens from Edgar and Alfred to Henry III, Elizabeth I and the Prince Regent.
Today Bath is a lively city, with a wide selection of activities and entertainments for everyone. Theatres, restaurants, museums and galleries, parks and waterways, all packed into less than a square mile, make it an ideal destination for a long weekend. Festivals and sporting events throughout the year mean there is always something going on. The shopping is excellent, with a wide range of independent shops; it's due to get even better later this year wth the opening of the new Southgate Shopping Centre. The Christmas Market, held in the squares and streets around the Abbey during the first two weeks of December, gets more popular every year.
Ideal to explore on foot, but unfriendly to the car, Bath is a great place to visit by train or bus.
The city is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, with lakes and canals, hills and valleys, and places to visit and things to see and do in every direction. Stonehenge, Bristol, Glastonbury and the Cotswolds are all popular destinations.
For active visitors the region gives opportunities for activities ranging from ballooning to boating. A visit to Bath guarantees an experience not to be missed.
